Darkness Ensues is a song by Vampyrouss written by Kazraine and Azrael in 2001 before the band had even formed. It was set to feature on the first Vampyrouss recording in 2002, but the whole idea for the band was abandoned during the writing process.

Naturally, when Vampyrouss rose again properly in 2004 Darkness Ensues appeared on the debut demo "A Gothic Romance". It was recorded with clearer sound and extra orchestration for the bands 2nd demo "From Lust To Dusk" and an impromptu live rehearsal video appeared on the "Angel Midst The Storm" VCD.

Despite remaining a signature song and being played live throughout the years it wasn't until the 2017 album "Compendium Vampyrica" that the song was finally recorded for a full official release. It also appeared along with the whole Vampyrouss back catalogue on the "Barely (A)Live Rehearsal" release in 2021.
